Shoal Creek Terrace Revival

This Shoal Creek property had all the right ingredients: a terraced lot, mature live oaks, and a character-rich 1970s limestone home, but the outdoor space had simply never been fully realized. The transformation began with replacing the existing wood deck and retaining walls with clean board-formed concrete, creating a modern framework that respects the original architecture without mimicking it. Large format cream pavers set in black decomposed granite now cover the primary patio level, giving the space a refined surface that holds its own against the bold red French doors and the home’s natural stone exterior. Concrete steps connect each terrace with deliberate precision, while newly planted ornamental grasses and perennials fill the raised beds with texture and life. What was once an unrealized hillside is now a layered, livable outdoor space that finally matches the character of the home it surrounds.
