Round Rock Turf Checkered Garden

This Round Rock backyard was redesigned around a bold geometric concept, with large format cream pavers laid directly into soft synthetic turf to create a dramatic checkerboard pattern that reads just as beautifully from above as it does at ground level. Decomposed granite zones anchor two corners of the yard, adding texture and functional variety without competing with the central design. Dark steel edging defines every transition with precision, while perimeter mulch beds and drought-tolerant plantings bring life and softness to the fence line. The mature live oak standing at the yard’s edge was carefully worked into the layout rather than designed around, giving the space a sense of permanence and natural character. The finished yard is low on maintenance and high on presence.
